KM Resources Lost Contact Hit By Storm On Berhala Island Riau, Basarnas Conducts Search
JAMBI - The Jambi Basarnas and joint SAR teams are currently still looking for a Resource Motor Ship (KM) that lost contact in the waters of Berhala Island, Riau Islands (Kepri), Thursday night at 22:45 WIB. Based on temporary information, KM was hit by a storm.
KM Sumber Daya sailed from Nipah Panjang, Tanjungjabung Timur Regency, Jambi, to Batam (Kepri) with a cargo of coconut.
The head of the Jambi Basarnas, Abdul Malik, said that after receiving information about the missing ship, his team immediately went to the location to search. KM Sumber Daya is manned by three crew members (ABK), each captain of the ship named Iar and two crew members named Aloy and Short
The 18 meter long ship loaded with coconut, departed from Nipah Panjang, sailed for Batam across the Berhala waters at 09.00 WIB and the ship captain called the ship owner that there had been a storm at 09.15 WIB.
"Today the Jambi Basarnas immediately dispatched the KN SAR 414 ship to the scene of the incident with an estimated journey of about five hours as far as 100 NM," Abdul Malik said in a written statement, Antara, Friday, March 11.
The Jambi Basarnas team immediately coordinated with Polairud, ship agents, the Navy, the Nipah Panjang port, and the fishermen's union by bringing various equipment.
"In the form of diving equipment, under water sonar and aqua eyes, medical equipment and satellite cellphones as well as GPS devices," he said.
