Amid War, Russian Artist Creates Peace Calligraphy On Ukrainian Businessman's Roof
JAKARTA - Peace is always worth fighting for. When Russia attacked Ukraine, Russian artists from Pokras Lampas made a peace campaign in Indonesia. He inscribed the largest calligraphy on the roof of the 980 m2 villa owned by Ukrainian real estate businessman Alex Stefan in Bali.
The work entitled “World United” was created in five languages – Russian, Ukrainian, English, Indonesian and Chinese. This work with the theme of peace is considered suitable to be inscribed at this time, in the midst of an uncertain world situation, especially due to military tensions between Russia and Ukraine.
Bali was specifically chosen because of its strategic location as a gathering place for various people from abroad, ranging from tourists, creative people, and business people. In the midst of the ongoing pandemic, visitors from abroad are still trying to visit this Island of the Gods.
“Wherever we are, we need to remember that the world is one even though we come from countries with different cultures. I painted “МИР ” (Mir Yedin) which means World United or the United World in five languages so that everyone who sees it can take the meaning of these words to heart,” said Pakras Lompas in a release received by VOI, Friday, 11 March.
Pakras said he was happy to be able to paint on the roof of the Alex Villas property, which is strategically located, so it can be seen from various sides. “I came to Bali from Ukraine six years ago. This United World work breathes tolerance, friendship, and respect for one another. I am very happy because we did build a villa whose architecture is in harmony with nature. It would be very good if with this work, our buildings can also be in harmony with people from various cultures,” said Alex.
As a businessman from Ukraine, he did not want war. "We don't want war. We want to build the future together. We want peace around the world," he hoped.
This peace-themed calligraphy painting was highly appreciated by Yuana Rochma Astuti as the Marketing Director of the Creative Economy of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy of Indonesia. According to him, this painting is very full of meaning in the midst of a tense world situation.
He said he was grateful that Bali was chosen to paint this calligraphy of peace, considering the image of Bali as a place full of peace. Indonesia itself adheres to the principle of "Bhinneka Tunggal Ika", with more than 800 cultures. Therefore, the phrase “DUNIA BERSATU” reflects the relationship between people, with nature, with differences between cultures.
