Sleman Regent Monitors Disaster Preparedness Of Volunteers On The Slope Of Merapi

SLEMAN - Regent of Sleman, Special Region of Yogyakarta Kustini Sri Purnomo led a volunteer preparedness rally in the context of mitigating the eruption of Mount Merapi at the Cangkringan Kapanewon (Kecamatan) office field.

This volunteer alert is a follow-up to the increased activity of Mount Merapi in the last few days.

Sleman Regent Kustini Sri Purnomo said this activity aims to prepare various things needed in order to reduce the risk of the eruption of Mount Merapi.

Not only reviewing the readiness of the volunteers, but the Regent also ensures that the evacuation facilities and evacuation sites can function properly.

"Volunteers, panewu (sub-district head), police chief, all of them, I think they are all ready. We are preparing refugee barracks which were not maximal yesterday. We have started cleaning up again," he said, quoted by Antara, Friday, March 11.

He also appreciated the preparedness of the volunteers in Kapanewon Cangkringan and hoped to motivate other communities in Sleman Regency to maintain stability, security and order in their respective regions in Sleman Regency.

"We expect the public to always follow the dynamics of information about the condition of Mount Merapi, so that people do not panic but also do not ignore it," he said.

Panewu Cangkringan Djaka Sumarsono said the number of volunteers in Kapanewon Cangkringan is around 150 people.

"The volunteers come from every kelurahan in Kapanewon Cangkringan," he said.

The Head of BPBD of Sleman Regency, Makwan, said that the eruption of Mount Merapi this time was effusive.

"Unlike explosive eruptions, effusive eruptions do not release magma explosions, but only melt," he said.

That way, the hot cloud vomit doesn't spread, but slides through the Gendol stream for 5 kilometers.

Even so, he asked residents to remain vigilant in order to avoid even greater risks.

"But whatever, the hot cloud, don't try it. We have to comply with the SOP. If there is a danger, it's better to get out of the way first," he said.
