Corruption Eradication Commission Chairman Filri Bahuri's Response To Edhy Prabowo's Sentence Cut To Four Years In Prison
JAKARTA - The Supreme Court (MA) has reduced the sentence for former Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Edhy Prabowo from 9 years in prison to five years in prison. Or a reduced sentence of four years.
In response to this, Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Firli said that his party respects the Supreme Court's decision. He said this step was taken because the decision of the cassation panel of judges was an independent power and free from intervention.
"Of course, with the Supreme Court's decision, we as law enforcement officers and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) really respect the judicial decision," Firli wrote as quoted from her Twitter account @firlibahuri, Friday, March 11.
Even so, the KPK is still waiting for the complete submission of the cassation decision to be further studied in order to determine a further stance. However, Firli believes that the judge must have a strong reason because he understands and knows about the case being decided.
"The judge is very aware of the case he decided. He is the one who knows more, and after we receive a copy of the Supreme Court's Cassation decision, then the KPK will study it, and then we will make a decision," he said.
This reduction in Edhy Prabowo's sentence has recently become a public spotlight. Moreover, the cassation panel in its consideration said that this former minister had worked well.
As for the intention of working well during his tenure, because Edhy revoked the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Regulation Number 56/PERMEN-KP/2016 dated December 23, 2016 and replaced it with the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Regulation Number 12/PERMEN-KP/2020 which aims to utilize lobster seeds. .
However, the Supreme Court's decision to cut Edhy's sentence to five years in prison was actually in accordance with the KPK's demands. On Tuesday, June 29, 2021, the KPK Public Prosecutor (JPU) at the Jakarta Corruption Court demanded the former Gerindra Party politician with a sentence of 5 years in prison. and a fine of IDR 400 million subsidiary 6 months in prison.
Edhy is believed to have been proven by prosecutors to have accepted bribes from a fry exporter of Rp. 25.7 billion. "Demanding that the panel of judges can decide, declaring the defendant guilty of committing a criminal act of corruption together. Sentencing the defendant for 5 years and a fine of IDR 400 million, subsidiary of 6 months in prison," said the KPK prosecutor in the trial.
Furthermore, the judge handed down a sentence similar to the prosecutor's demands before finally being on appeal at the DKI Jakarta High Court, the sentence was increased to 9 years in prison.
