Bringing Dozens Of Generators, PLN Guarantees To Bring Electricity Without Blinking During The MotoGP Event
JAKARTA - PT PLN (Persero) has brought in dozens of UPS and generators from a number of regions to provide electricity without flickering during the MotoGP event which will be held for the first time in Indonesia, to be precise at the Mandalika Circuit, West Nusa Tenggara on 18-20 March.
PLN's Regional Business Director for Sulawesi, Maluku, Papua and Nusa Tenggara, Adi Priyanto explained, the main supply of MotoGP electricity comes from the Lombok Electricity System which is connected via a 150 kiloVolt (kV) transmission or known as the High Voltage Air Line (SUTT).
"This voltage will be transformed to a voltage of 20 kV for further distribution to customers. Currently, there are eleven substations (GIs) spread throughout Lombok to strengthen the system," he said.
He added that the main supply of MotoGP will be supplied from 2 GIs, namely GI Sengkol and GI Kuta. These two GIs have been prepared, especially to welcome MotoGP.
"The main function of the GI is to transform the voltage. The electricity from the generator will go to the GI, and then it will be distributed to the Mandalika circuit," said Adi.
The Kuta GI has been operating since 2015. The transformer capacity installed at the Kuta GI is 30 Mega Volt Ampere (MVA) which is currently 28 percent or 8.4 MVA. Meanwhile, GI Sengkol has been operating since 2012 with one transformer with a capacity of 30 MVA which currently has a load of about 40 percent or 12 MVA.
Not only that, several Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) units are prepared as the second layer and generator sets as the third layer in case of disturbances in the main and second supply.
For this MotoGP event, PLN has brought in 20 UPS with a total power of 2.52 MVA from Bima and Sumbawa, even from DKI Jakarta, NTT, Papua and West Papua. In addition, a total of 11 generator units imported from Bima, Sumbawa and Papua with a total capacity of 6.2 kilo Volt Ampere (kVA) will be operated as the third layer.
Along with the load development, PLN added one transformer with a capacity of 30 MVA in 2017 and one transformer with a capacity of 60 MVA which operated in December 2020. The current load for the two transformers is 68 percent and 15 percent, respectively.
From these two GIs, the MotoGP event will be supplied from 3 main electric lines. Two medium-voltage cable lines along the 1,485-kilometer circuit (kms) from GI Kuta and one line along 13.8 kms from GI Sengkol, which will be completed in 2021.
"This is PLN's effort to provide the best for MotoGP. And we continue to ask for prayers and support from the entire community and also NTB stakeholders so that all series of activities can run safely and smoothly," added Adi.
