BI Survey: Consumer Optimism Remains Strong Even Though Economic Conditions Are Not As Expected
JAKARTA - Bank Indonesia (BI) released information that consumer confidence throughout February remained strong and was in the optimistic area. This was revealed by BI based on the Consumer Survey conducted last month.
Head of the BI Communications Department Erwin Haryono said the Consumer Confidence Index (IKK) in February 2022 was 113.1 or lower than January 2020 which was 119.6.
"Consumer confidence last month which was not as high as in January was caused by expectations of more limited future economic conditions," he said in an official statement on Wednesday, March 9.
According to Erwin, this indication can be seen from expectations of income, job availability and business activities, although they are still in the optimistic area.
"At the same time, consumers perceive that the current economic condition is not as expected, allegedly in line with the increasing number of COVID-19 cases and stricter implementation of Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) in various regions in Indonesia," he said.
