Lost Fisherman Falls From Wooden Boat In Batam Tourism Waters
BATAM - An angler fell from the wooden boat he was riding into the sea and was lost in the waters of Mubut Darat Tourism, Batam City, Riau Islands.
"We have received information on the SAR operation of a shipwreck, 'man over boat', one angler fell into the sea," said Head of Tanjungpinang Search and Rescue Office Slamet Riyadi, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, March 8.
He said the victim, whose identity is still unknown, was fishing with his partner in Batam waters. During the incident, the victim's fishing rod fell, and the victim immediately plunged into the sea.
"It turned out that the victim could not swim, so the victim's companions tried to help her. But it was out of control, so the victim allegedly drowned and was swept away by the current," he said.
The victim is missing, while his friend is still alive.
Slamet said, upon receiving the report of an accident in Batam, the team moved from the Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) Dompak Pier, Tanjungpinang City to the location of the accident.
A total of seven personnel from the Tanjungpinang Search and Rescue Office were deployed using RIB.
Currently, as many as 30 people are participating in the search, consisting of seven personnel from the Tanjungpinang SAR Office, two from the Riau Islands Police and 30 local people.
In the search, his party used the Tanjungpinang SAR Office RIB, the 1009 Polair Polda Kepri fast boat, the Mubut Village fast boat, and 10 wooden boats belonging to the community.
The team also prepared SAR equipment and equipment in the form of diving equipment, aqua eye, palkom, palm medical/evacuation, and COVID-19 protective clothing.
