Protesters Attack Police In Waena Papua, Operational Car Damaged
JAYAPURA - Police Brigadier Roygen Sarwa was injured when he was attacked by protesters while driving an operational car from the Jayapura City Police in the Waena area, Heram District, Papua.
The Jayapura City Police Chief, Kombes Gustav Urbinas, confirmed that his members were injured after being beaten by several demonstrators. The victim has been taken to the local Bhayangkara Hospital.
In addition to being beaten, the operational car of the Jayapura City Police was also pelted to damage the front and there were many stones inside the car.
Even though the car only carried packaged rice which would later be given to members of the Police who were on standby around the Abepura District and Heram District.
"Members have been ordered to investigate the case," said Urbinas, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, March 8.
Kombes Urbinas admitted that his party did not allow demonstrators on behalf of students to hold demonstrations, because it was feared that an anarchic action would occur so they tried to disperse before more people gathered.
There were several points of crowd of demonstrators but the longest dispersed was in the Perumnas III area. Police fired tear gas and water spray while trying to disperse the demonstrators.
"Indeed, when they tried to disperse the demonstrators, the members fired tear gas and sprayed water from the water cannon," said Kombes Urbinas.
Currently, all points where the demonstrators gather have been disbanded. The personnel involved in securing around 800 members of the TNI-Polri.
