5 Roads In Bandung Are Closed To Prevent The Spread Of COVID-19

JAKARTA - The Bandung Police Traffic Unit will impose the closure of a number of roads during the day and night to minimize community mobility when the Covid-19 pandemic has not subsided.

Head of the Bandung Police Traffic Unit, Police Commissioner Rano Hadiyanto, explained that the closure was carried out at five points on the main road which is often busy with community mobility.

"It is planned that starting Friday, September 18, there will be road closures in the morning, there are five points," he said, in Bandung, as reported by Antara, Thursday, September 17.

The closure, he said, was carried out twice, namely at noon from 09.00-11.00 WIB. Then it is continued at night from 22.00-06.00 WIB in the morning.

Five roads that will be closed are Jalan Asia Afrika-Jalan Tamblong, Jalan Otista-Jalan Suniaraja, Jalan Purnawarman-Jalan Riau, Jalan Merdeka - Jalan Riau, and Jalan Merdeka-Jalan Aceh.

He said that at night the police and the Bandung Transportation Agency would begin draining the vehicles at these five points at 21.00 WIB in preparation for closure one hour later.

Even though it is closed, he said, for people who live in the area or work in the closed road area, their mobility will be flexible.

"For community activities it is flexible, for example people living on closed roads or working, by showing their identity to officers, can enter," he said.

Meanwhile, Head of the Bandung Transportation Agency, Ricky Gustiadi, said that this closure was part of the tightening of the New Habit Adaptation period. Closing roads in the morning is an effort to prevent a build-up of vehicles.

The opening and closing of this road will last for 14 days. A number of roads were chosen because they are the city center and are considered to represent the entire area in Bandung City. "During the PSBB, the term was Ring 1. Later there will be an evaluation related to this," he said.
