Metal Band Voice Of Baceprot Breaks The Stereotype Of Beautiful Women, Hijab Is Not A Worldly Barrier

JAKARTA - The metal band Voice of Baceprot (VoB) has proven that women can have a free career. Not only the choice of rock music that is out of the ordinary, the appearance of the three members wearing hijab does not make it difficult for them to penetrate the world market.

Voice of Baceprot is a female metal band from Garut, West Java, consisting of Marsya, Widi, and Sitti. At the end of 2021, they performed in Brussels, Belgium, in the series of the Fight Dream Believe: European Tour 2021 tour. According to Marsya, the vocalist, at first they often received criticism and were even asked to stop making music because it was deemed not suitable for their performance.

"Most of them are those who tell us to stop playing music. Most people think we are not suitable for playing loud music with the appearance of wearing a hijab. So people advise to stop playing music or keep playing music but take off the hijab," said Marsya as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, 7 March.

"Many also advise to focus on staying at home. Such things have become our daily food," continued Marsya.

These negative comments, said Marsya, came from various directions, including their families and the environment around them. "From their families, they think that being a musician can't guarantee their future. They also think that we want to spread a bad influence in the environment," said Marsya.

However, Marsya and her bandmates, Sitti and Widi, ignored the negative comments because they felt they had found themselves in music.

"Over time, we find ourselves in music. We were afraid to take a step, but in the end we still believed in ourselves," said Marsya.

"We decided to keep going, because if they stop, that's exactly what they want. We don't want to give up because of fear," he added.

Although metal music sounds loud, Marsya said that the most important thing in music is the message to be conveyed to the listeners.

According to Marsya, metal music has a lot to say about justice, equality issues, environmental issues, and humanitarian issues. That's what makes Voice of Baceprot consistent with the music.

"We intend to include good messages including gender equality and women's rights in our music. We believe that music has its own language that can touch all ages and circles," concluded Marsya.

As a form of thanks to their supporters, VoB is getting ready to release a new single to celebrate International Women's Day which falls on March 8 tomorrow.

"We performed the song while on tour, but we haven't talked about this song too much because it hasn't been officially released yet. We hope this can inspire women to ignite more courage," said Marsya.

The release of the song will be followed by a movement involving female figures to support other women to have the courage to speak up and show themselves.

"We are also working with Women of the World and figures in Indonesia as well. Details will be announced on Instagram VoB," he added.

Regarding International Women's Day, Marsya said that every woman has great potential and only needs courage to show it.

"The most important thing is how women realize that potential is in themselves. We must support them to build the courage to show it," concluded Marsya.
