Dua Lipa Sued By Reggae Band Alleging Levitating Plagiarism
JAKARTA - Singer Dua Lipa has been sued by a Florida reggae band, Artikal Sound System, for allegedly imitating Lipa's Levitating song.
The report, which was submitted to Los Angeles Court on Tuesday, March 1, states that the song Levitating imitates the Artikal Sound System song titled Live Your Life. The band said that the song had topped the Billboard music charts at number two.
They claim Dua Lipa heard and imitated 'Live Your Life' before they wrote Levitating.
“Levitating is substantially similar to Live Your Life. Given the similarities, Levitating is most likely made from Live Your Life," the band said in a statement.
Through its report, Artikal Sound System sued Dua Lipa, writer and producer as well as Warner Records label. However, they did not explain the similarities of the two tracks specifically and asked for compensation.
Dua Lipa released Levitating as a single from the album Future Nostalgia which was released in 2020. The song reached number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and stayed for several weeks.
On the other hand, the song Live Your Life from Artikal Sound System was released in 2017 through the Soundcloud site.
Meanwhile, Dua Lipa has not yet responded to the Artikal Sound System lawsuit. Currently, the singer is on the Future Nostalgia world tour.
