The Deputy Governor Of DKI Explains The Causes Of The Increase In Food Prices, One Of The Causes Of The Russo-Ukrainian War

JAKARTA - Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Riza Patria admitted that there was an increase in food prices in Jakarta ahead of the current month of Ramadan.

Riza revealed that there are a number of reasons why food prices could rise in the market. It starts from limited availability to weather factors.

"Every year when entering the holy month of Ramadan, it is always followed by an increase in the price of basic necessities or food. There are many factors, there is a high demand, insufficient supply, weather factors, and so on," said Riza at DKI City Hall, Friday, March 4.

In fact, Riza also mentioned that the current state of war between Russia and Ukraine could also lead to an increase in food prices in the country, especially the capital city. However, at this time it has not felt the impact.

"Later, there will be other factors that have not yet been felt. There is a war between Ukraine and Russia. We import a huge amount of wheat from Ukraine," said Riza.

Therefore, Riza admitted that the DKI Provincial Government is currently working on a strategy to meet the food needs of the community to control prices and stock in the market.

"We, the central government and the regional government are seeking various solutions related to needs and affordable prices according to people's purchasing power. Also, we will continue to carry out market operations," he said.
