Mahfud MD: Indonesia Is One Of The G20 Countries With Severe Corruption

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD said Indonesia was one of the G20 countries whose corruption level was quite severe.

This statement refers to the Corruption Perception Index (GPA) issued by Transparency International Indonesia (TII).

Mahfud said this level of perception had indeed increased compared to 2020. However, Indonesia is still a corrupt country.

"In 2020 we experienced a decline (GPA, ed) but in 2021, which was released in 2022, we experienced another increase, although not too high from ranking 102 to 96 with the perception that currently 37 or 38 indexes and remains one of the G20 countries classified as the corruption is quite severe or rampant," said Mahfud when he was a keynote speaker at the G20 Anti-Corruption Working Group Kick Off event which was broadcast on the Indonesian KPK YouTube, Friday, March 4.

Even so, Mahfud said that Indonesia still had a better GPA than a number of other countries such as Russia. However, he still reminded all law enforcement officers to work together and strengthen coordination in carrying out their duties. This includes efforts to eradicate corruption.

This step, he continued, was needed to improve Indonesia's bad image due to its corrupt behavior in the eyes of the international community.

"Coordination is the key to the success of law enforcement to eradicate corruption. So that joint efforts are needed both internally and externally. We still have an image of corrupt behavior in the international world," said the former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK).

Mahfud hopes that the implementation of the G20 international forum can have a big impact on Indonesia, especially in efforts to eradicate corruption which is an extraordinary crime.

Because, eradicating corruption must be done by all parties from the government, society, to the international community, even though complexity is a challenge in itself.

"Corruption is the enemy of all nations in the world who need a global eradication solution," said Mahfud.

"This cooperation needs to be started from within with a synergy between the KPK, the police, the prosecutor's office, and other law enforcement officers," he said.

For information, Indonesia's GPA is now at 38 on a scale of 0-100. A score of 0 means very corrupt while 100 means very clean. Meanwhile, for ranking or ranking, Indonesia is at number 96.

With this position, Indonesia has the same PK and ranking as Indonesia. These countries are Argentina, Brazil, Turkey, Serbia and Lesotho.

As for the Asean ranking, Indonesia is in fifth place below Vietnam, which has a GPA of 39, Timor Leste with a CPI score of 41, Malaysia 48, and Singapore 85.

As for the ranking in the G20 countries, Indonesia is ranked 16th below Argentina, which has the same CPI score. The countries that sit in first place are Germany with a CPI score of 80, followed by England 78, and Canada 74.
