JAKARTA - The Ministry of Agriculture through the Directorate General of Livestock and Animal Health said that the public need not worry because beef stocks are sufficient until May. This is in response to public unrest about being able to buy beef at this time.
Director of Processing and Marketing of Livestock Products at the Directorate General of Livestock and Animal Health, Tri Melasari said that based on updated data as of March 2, 2022, the results of data collection and factual verification of data on the availability of beef/buffalo meat from March to May 2022 were 234,091.2 tons.
"Meanwhile, the demand is 202,937.8 tons, so there is still a surplus of 31,153.4 tons," he said in a written statement received by VOI, Friday, March 4.
The composition of the availability of meat consists of local beef/buffalo production of 445,884 heads or 80,268.0 tons of meat equivalent. Then, the total imported beef cattle ready for slaughter in March-May are 143,464 heads or the equivalent of 27,500.6 tons of meat. Meanwhile, frozen beef/buffalo imports amounted to 95,114.8 tons.
According to him, the validation of the prognostic data on the availability and demand for beef/buffalo has been periodically discussed with the Ministry and other relevant institutions, as well as livestock associations.
Furthermore, he explained, his party is ready to help convey information to people who have difficulty buying beef. In fact, he mentioned, if there are problems related to market access and distribution, then his party is ready to help.
"For that, we ask that the public does not need to worry, as well as the beef cutters and traders to keep selling because the stock of beef is ready to be slaughtered and the meat until Eid, God willing, is safe," he said.

Safe stock until May
Meanwhile, the Director General of Livestock and Animal Health, Nasrullah said, the overall availability of meat and cattle for the months of March, April to May is sufficient, both from feeder cattle, ready-to-be beef cattle and frozen meat.
According to him, the Ministry of Agriculture is ready to facilitate the associations of traders and cutters. "We have prepared data from production sources, we are ready to help connect slaughterers, traders, BUMN, and BUMD with local cattle or buffalo sources by name by address to purchase local cattle or buffalo," said Nasrullah.
In fact, said Nasrullah, if there is a problem with paying cash, the government has now prepared capital facilitation assistance in the form of a People's Business Credit Scheme (KUR) for the purchase of local cattle/buffalo that are ready to be slaughtered by farmers/livestock groups.
Furthermore, Nasrullah said, if the availability of ready-to-be beef and meat at the level of the main supplier or main distributor, the price is still under control. The problem that exists today is because there are panics and fears that are deliberately rumored because they are related to distribution.
