Sincere Learning From Flood Victims

JAKARTA - "There is always a first for every story." It turns out that this wise expression does not only apply when someone has an exciting and exciting experience.

That is what lies behind the story of a young man named Darius (28) who for the first time - in his 28 years of life - felt the consequences of the severe floods in Jabodektabek that hit his house in the Wisma Tanjur Complex, Cileduk, Tangerang, Banten. The flood which unfortunately coincides with the first day of 2020.

The New Year is often a place to briefly think about and prepare for the next year's life. For some others, New Year's Eve is also used for a moment to enjoy euphoria and for a moment to enjoy the days wrapped in new experiences.

But, not for Darius. When VOI met him, he talked about New Year's Eve. At that time, he even got an assignment to Surabaya, which is 728 km from the capital city. This makes Darius have to enjoy the new year celebrations away from his mother who is in Ciledug.

News with his mother, Darius found that the difference in weather between Ciledug and Surabaya was really far. Surabaya at that time was so bright. While in Ciledug, it was raining hard. However, they did not actually communicate at length right on the morning of the year's opener, Wednesday, January 1.

Starting from his mother who initially called back via cellphone and wished him a happy new year. Darius, who felt odd because his mother's tone seemed to be sad, then asked, "what's wrong, mom?"

From the conversation, his mother reported that heavy rain throughout the night caused the water flow of the Angke River to rise so that the surrounding embankments could not hold the flow of the water. The flood also hit his house. Like it or not, his mother also fled. This fact made Darius calm down a little. However, before continuing the conversation, his mother then apologized, because a motorcycle that had accompanied him for five years could not be saved.

Darius harbored a little disappointment at the end of the phone chat. His disappointment grew when he had trouble choosing a return flight that day. That afternoon, the flood reached a height of about 2.5 meters, so he had to wait for the water to fall another night.

It was only the next day, Thursday, January 2, that Darius managed to break through the floods around his house. Before arriving home, Darius took a look around. He found lots of cars, motorbikes and non-terraced houses submerged. In fact, there are also residents' motorbikes that have just been bought for one month have been flooded.

Immediately Darius admitted, he felt ashamed of his complaints and disappointment. "It turns out that there are still many who are worse off than me ... God is all fair."
