Komnas HAM: Strange, Case Of Human Confinement In Langkat Regent's House Since 2010 But No Correction
JAKARTA - The chairman of the Indonesian National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) Ahmad Taufan Damanik said he was surprised and felt that there was an oddity regarding the existence of a human cage belonging to the inactive Langkat Regent.
"Strange or odd, this incident has been going on since 2010 years, but there has been no correction," said Komnas HAM chairman Ahmad Taufan Damanik, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, March 2.
Interestingly, he said, the human cage is in the regent's house, which the public should know.
Moreover, before serving as the Regent of Langkat, the Plan for Warring Angin was published as the Chairman of the DPRD and a public figure.
"That is, we need to ask why there is an event like this that has been going on for a long time but there is no correction and supervision," he said.
Komnas HAM's findings suggest that there are local forces supported by social organizations, political organizations and financial power to run the human cage belonging to the inactive Langkat Regent.
In addition, Terbit Angin Angin is known or also known as one of the "local players" in the illegal palm oil business in Langkat Regency.
Komnas HAM also found a number of allegations of human rights violations, for example, violent practices or it could also be called slavery for employing someone without a permit to comply with applicable regulations. "In fact, there were incidents of torture that led to the death of several people," he said.
Finally, he suspects that the practice carried out by the inactive Langkat Regent could also occur in other areas and be carried out by local oligarchs.
