Police Response After Getting Orders From Jokowi About Wisdom On WhatsApp Group

JAKARTA - The National Police will obey and follow President Joko Widodo's directives about being careful in conveying statements, especially in conversations on WhatsApp Group (WAG). In fact, there will be periodic supervision of all members of the Bhayangkara Corps regarding this matter.

"Yes (supervision, ed) periodically and of course incidentally when receiving information from the public," said the Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police Inspector General Dedi Prasetyo to VOI, Wednesday, March 2.

Later, the General Supervision Inspectorate (Itwasum) of the Professional and Security Division (Propam) will carry out the supervision. So, if a violation is found, action will be taken immediately.

"Supervision by Itwasum and Propam, will be increased again and if there are members who are proven to have violated they will be dealt with according to applicable procedures," said Dedi.

However, the form or pattern of supervision carried out related to the discipline of using WAG has not been detailed.

So far, Dedi has only emphasized that the Police will follow President Joko Widodo's directions regarding this matter. In fact, the directive is referred to as a guideline for all members of the National Police in carrying out their duties.

"The President's directives serve as guidelines for implementation in the field. All members of the National Police are ready to carry out the President's orders," said Dedi.

Previously, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) asked the TNI-Polri to be careful in making statements. Especially in conversations on WhatsApp Groups (WAG).

"You have to start being disciplined, in WhatsApp Groups. I saw in WA groups, if you are within your own circle you can, be careful. If it is allowed and if it is continued, be careful," said Jokowi to the TNI-Polri ranks in a leadership meeting (rapim) TNI-Polri 2022 at TNI Headquarters, Cilangkap, East Jakarta, Tuesday, March 1.

He then gave an example, one of which was discussed about the nation's capital city (IKN). He mentioned that there was a discussion on the rejection of IKN in the TNI-Polri group.

"For example, talking about IKN, do you disagree, what IKN? That has been decided by the government and approved by the DPR," said Jokowi.

According to Jokowi, the TNI-Polri discipline regarding the government's decision to move the nation's capital is no longer debated. He admitted that he read the TNI-Polri WA group that mentioned the IKN.

"In the discipline of the TNI and Polri, it cannot be debated, especially in the WA group, it is easy to read," said Jokowi.
