Puan Maharani Encourages Cadres With History To Win The 2024 Presidential Election

SURABAYA - The chairman of the PDI-P DPP who is also the chairman of the DPR, Puan Maharani, visited the Surabaya City PDI-P DPC office. Puan said the visit was to release the longing for PDIP cadres in Surabaya, a city that is thick with historical values in PDIP's journey.

"This releases my longing," said Puan, to a standing ovation from the cadres who were present, Tuesday, March 1.

In addition to the ranks of the Surabaya PDIP DPC, the chairman, secretary, and treasurer of the Sub-Branch Management (sub-district level) in Surabaya were also present. Cadres from sub-districts (kelurahan) and sub-branches (RW) throughout Surabaya participated virtually.

From the PDIP DPP, Ahmad Basarah and Said Abdullah were present. Also present were the Chair of the East Java PDIP DPD Kusnadi and his staff, as well as members of the DPR Bambang DH, Puti Guntur Soekarno, and Indah Kurnia.

Puan then told how close she was to the history of PDIP's journey to date, especially those related to Surabaya. Since she was a student, Puan has followed the ups and downs of Megawati Soekarnoputri's struggle to bring democracy to Indonesia.

One of the peaks of the struggle was the PDI Extraordinary Congress (KLB) in Sukolilo, Surabaya, 1993. That was an open moment of resistance to the New Order, which at that time was in its heyday. Megawati was de facto elected chairman of the PDI, but the New Order could not accept her.

"I was present in Sukolilo, when I was just about to go to college. Historically, the city of Surabaya has always been die hard, being at the forefront when defending Megawati," said Puan.

Puan also ignited the enthusiasm of the Surabaya PDIP cadres to continue to work towards the 2024 General Election. Puan said that the election has been determined by the government and approved by all factions in the DPR RI, will be held on February 14, 2024.

"Two years is arguably not long. If we read all the surveys, the PDI-P is superior. Don't be careless. Keep going down, helping the people," he said.

Meanwhile, Surabaya PDIP DPC chairman Adi Sutarwijono stated that all cadres in the City of Heroes continued to actively move and consolidate. People's work is also done continuously.

"In Surabaya, a Sub-Branch Deliberation was held last November, and these days a coordination meeting for the sub-branches was held at the sub-district level. People's work continues to be built, helping the people in the fields of education, health, social affairs, and so on," said Adi.

Adi also explained about the Surabaya PDIP DPC office which was inaugurated by PDIP General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri in August 2021. "From this office we will consolidate and move all party machines to score victory in the 2024 Election, Presidential Election, and Regional Election," he said.
