The President Of Lyon Said, It Is Impossible For Barca To Be Able To Buy Depay
JAKARTA - Olympique Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas dismissed rumors spread by Spanish and Dutch media that his club was on the verge of an agreement with Barcelona for the sale of Memphis Depay.
Unmitigated, Aulas immediately mentioned the name of Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu, who admitted that he did not have the financial ability to bid for Depay.
"The President of Barca told me last Sunday that Barca is suffering a lot because of the COVID-19 crisis and is unable to submit an offer," tweeted Aulas via his personal Twitter account, @JM_Aulas.
In the tweet, Aulas also added a De Telegraaf news link, which included a report that Barcelona was ready to pay 30 million euros to sign Depay from Lyon.
Depay still has contacts until 2021 at Lyon and the situation is the same as Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.
Both have been the subject of rumors of Barcelona's main transfer targets since the appointment of Ronald Koeman as head coach of Los Blaugranas to replace Quique Setien.
Depay and Wijnaldum are two of Koeman's mainstay players during his time with the Dutch national team in mid 2018-2020.
