Add Sinopharm, There Are 6 Types Of Booster Vaccine Regimens

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Health added the Sinopharm vaccine as a third or booster dose vaccine regimen. Currently, there are a total of six types of booster vaccine regimens used in Indonesia.

The Director General of Disease Prevention and Control at the Ministry of Health, Maxi Rein Rondonuwu, revealed that the six booster vaccine regimens are Sinovac, AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Moderna, Janssen (J&J), and Sinopharm.

"The booster dose is given through two mechanisms, namely homologous and heterologous," said Maxi in his statement, Tuesday, March 1.

The homologue referred to by Maxi is the administration of a booster dose using the same type of vaccine as the complete primary vaccine that was previously obtained.

Meanwhile, heterologous is giving a booster dose by using a different type of vaccine from the complete primary vaccine that has been previously obtained.

In Sinovac's primary vaccine, the booster vaccine can use 3 types of vaccines, including half-dose of AstraZeneca (0.25 ml), half-dose of Pfizer (0.15 ml), and full-dose of Moderna (0.5 ml). If the primary vaccine is AstraZeneca then The booster can use half-dose of Moderna vaccine (0.25 ml), half-dose of Pfizer vaccine (0.15 ml), and full-dose of AstraZeneca vaccine (0.5 ml).

In the Pfizer primary vaccine, the booster can use the full dose of Pfizer (0.3 ml), half dose of Moderna (0.25 ml), and the full dose of AstraZeneca (0.5 ml).

Then in the Moderna primary vaccine, a booster using the same vaccine is half the dose (0.25 ml). Then the primary vaccine is Janssen (J&J), then for a booster, use a half dose of Moderna (0.25 ml).

While for the primary Sinopharm vaccine, the booster vaccine also uses the full dose (0.5 ml) of the Sinopharm vaccine.

Separately, a spokesperson for vaccination from the Ministry of Health, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, said that the booster vaccine currently used depends on the availability of each region.

"The vaccine used for this booster dose is adjusted to the availability of vaccines in each region by prioritizing vaccines with the closest expiry date," said Nadia.
