Robb Flynn On Machine Head's New Song And Solo Album
JAKARTA - Robb Flynn has completed the process of writing seven new songs for Machine Head. The vocalist and guitarist revealed this on his social media recently while reflecting on the achievements he has made throughout 2019.
In the same post, Flynn confirmed that he had recorded a solo album containing cover songs. The album will be released under the banner of Robb Flynn & Friends.
Here's Flynn's full statement:
Meanwhile, last October Machine Head released a new song titled Do Or Die. At the time of its appearance, the song was described by some fans and the media as a song aimed at detractors of Machine Head, particularly those who criticized the band's last album, Catharsis (2018).
Do Or Die is produced by Flynn and Zack Ohren (Fallujah, All Shall Perish) at Sharkbite Studios in Oakland, California. Russ Russell (At The Gates, Napalm Death, Sikth) was entrusted to the mixing side at Parlor Studios, England. The mastering is held by Gene Grimaldi at Oasis Mastering in Burbank, California.
The song was recorded in December 2018 by Flynn, bassist Jared MacEachern and Warbringer drummer Carlos Cruz. But Cruz took part in the recording sessions following the departure of longtime Machine Head drummer Dave McClain.
During a Facebook Live session in August 2019, Flynn said Machine Head would begin streaming the single. There will be no albums, only streams of stand-alone songs that are released consistently.
"And in the end the songs may or may not end up on the album. But we mixed them. We want to do this new model where we can get the material out faster and get new music out to the fans faster," Flynn said. .
As for the first leg of Machine Head's debut album Burn My Eyes' 25th tour, Burn My Eyes kicked off in Freiburg, Germany on October 5 and closed in Dublin, Ireland on November 8. The three-hour show consisted of two parts: the first part saw Modern Machine Head classics such as Imperium, Halo, and Locust played by a line-up featuring guitarist / vocalist Robb Flynn and bassist Jared MacEachern alongside new recruit, Polish guitarist Wacław "Vogg" Kiełtyka (Decapitated) and British drummer Matt Alston (Devilment, Deastern Front); the second part saw Burn My Eyes played in its entirety for the first time, with original drummer Chris Kontos and guitarist Logan Mader.
The North American leg of the tour will kick off in Phoenix on January 16, and continue across Texas, Florida, New York, Toronto, Chicago and Denver, ending at the legendary Fox Theater in Oakland, California on February 21 and House Of Blues in Anaheim, California on February 22.
