Hamilton Faces Fines For Wearing Political-smelling Shirts At The Tuscan GP
JAKARTA - The FIA International Automative Federation is investigating Lewis Hamilton. This is related to the black anti-racism shirt he wore at the Tuscan Grand Prix at the Mugello Circuit, Italy, last weekend.
Reporting from Antara, Tuesday, September 15, the six-time world champion who also won the Tuscan Grand Prix racing series was seen wearing a t-shirt with the words "catch the police who killed Breonna Taylor" before the race, while climbing the podium to conducting interviews with the media.
The shirt is considered to lead to political elements. Meanwhile, the FIA prohibits all riders from bringing up "political or religious matters that are detrimental to the interests of the FIA"
An FIA spokesman told the BBC that Hamilton's case was "under review." If proven to have committed a violation, Hamilton could be fined.
Hamilton usually wears a shirt that reads "Black Lives Matter" in every race as a form of protest against racism that occurs in the US. The FIA never commented and took issue with it.
“It took me a long time to put it on and it made people aware that someone was killed on the street, in his own house. Meanwhile the perpetrators are still roaming free, "Hamilton said after his 90th win last Sunday.
At another championship, Japanese tennis player Naomi Osaka previously voiced her protest against racial injustice that occurred in the United States while appearing at the US Open. He wore a face mask that read Breonna Taylor in the first round of the Grand Slam tournament.
"We can't rest. We have to keep increasing that awareness. And Naomi (Osaka) has done amazingly, "said Hamilton.
Breonna Taylor, 26, is an African-American nurse who was shot dead by police in her apartment in Louisville, Kentucky, on March 13.
A police officer involved was fired by the city's police department in June. The other two officers were transferred to the administrative assignment post. No criminal charges were filed against any of these three policemen.
