Sad News, Vocalist Mark Lanegan Passes Away
JAKARTA - Mark Lanegan, known as the singer and founder of the rock band "Screaming Trees", died at the age of 57 at his residence in Killarney, Ireland, on Tuesday, February 22 local time.
The sad news was announced via Mark Lanegan's official Twitter page. The cause of death was not disclosed.
"Our dear friend Mark Lanegan died this morning at his home in Killarney, Ireland. A singer, songwriter, author and musician aged 57 and left behind his wife Shelley. No other information is available at this time. We ask that you respect the family's privacy. ," said the statement, quoted from ANTARA.
Citing Deadline, Lanegan led the band "Screaming Trees" from 1984. He became a central figure in the burgeoning grunge scene in the early 1990s, a genre that other bands such as Mudhoney, Melvins, Soundgarden, and Nirvana followed. "Screaming Trees" disbanded in 2000.
Besides being known as the vocalist of "Screaming Trees", Lanegan has also been the vocalist of the rock band "Queens of the Stone Age" founded by Josh Homme.
As a solo artist, Lanegan was a frequent collaborator for nearly 15 years with "Queens of the Stone Age", which appeared on the albums "Rated R", "Songs for the Deaf", "Lullabies to Paralyze", "Era Vulgaris", and " …Like Clockwork".
Lanegan has also collaborated with Kurt Cobain, who performed an arrangement of Lead Belly's classic "In The Pines" entitled "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" for the MTV Unplugged Nirvana concert.
In addition to nearly a dozen solo albums, Lanegan also collaborated with Greg Dulli of the band "The Afghan Whigs" to form "The Gutter Twins".
