JAKARTA - Trade Minister Muhammad Lutfi has confirmed that he will file a lawsuit if he finds cooking oil speculators causing a shortage and soaring commodity prices in the market.

"If there are speculators who violate the law, I will sue. I have spoken to the National Police Chief, Kabareskrim, who has been arrested for immediate legal processing," said Lutfi during a working visit in Yogyakarta, quoted from Antara, Wednesday, February 23.

The government, he said, is currently trying to ensure the smooth running of all cooking oil distribution channels in various regions.

"Now the main thing is to run all distribution channels so that they can run, the main thing is that," said Lutfi.

Previously, the Food Task Force of North Sumatra Province found a storage warehouse for cooking oil in Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra with a large quantity of 1.1 million kilograms.

Regarding this case, the Trade Minister confirmed that he had asked for the cooking oil in the distributor to be issued immediately.

"So the Medan case, D1 (the first distributor) has been in contact with us and the police, we have asked for everything to be released and poured out yesterday.

To meet the needs of the community, according to the Trade Minister, from February 14 to 20, 2022, the government has received 125 million liters of cooking oil from Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Sumatra.
