Tesla's Autopilot System Faces A Series Of Probes In Germany After Fatal Crash

JAKARTA - Tesla's automatic lane change system, known as Autopilot, is currently being investigated by transport regulators in Germany. Reports of the investigation appeared in the Bild am Sonntag newspaper on Sunday, February 20.

Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (Federal Motor Transport Authority) is reportedly assessing whether the technology, which Tesla is offering as an improvement in driving, is safe for use on German roads.

According to the report, the Regulator is also in talks with the Dutch vehicle agency, which is responsible for approving the use of these vehicles across Europe,

Tesla and KBA did not immediately respond to requests for comment from the media on the news.

Tesla's automated driving technology is currently facing increased scrutiny worldwide following a series of fatal accidents.

Last week, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration launched a second investigation into a potential Autopilot error after users complained of “phantom breaking” at high speeds.

The KBA also launched a separate investigation last January into possible touchscreen security risks in the center consoles of various Tesla models.
