BMKG Records 27 Earthquakes Throughout February In North Sumatra And Aceh
MEDAN - Regional Earthquake Center (PGR) I, Center for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Region 1 Medan recorded 27 earthquakes during the third week of February 2022 that occurred in North Sumatra and Aceh.
The head of the BBMKG Region I Medan, Darmawan in Medan, Saturday 19 February, explained that in the third week of February 2022 the earthquakes in the Aceh and North Sumatra regions originated around the Sumatran Fault segments and some were spread over several subduction areas.
"Based on the strength, the earthquake that occurred in the third week or the period of February 11-17, with a small magnitude of 4.0 as many as 25 events, with a magnitude between 4.0 and 5.0 as many as 2 events," he said.
Meanwhile, an analyst for BBMKG Region I Medan, Marzuki Sinambela, explained that seismic activity in Aceh and North Sumatra predominantly occurred on land as many as 14 incidents and at sea 13 incidents.
The depth of the earthquake that occurred during the past week was quite shallow (under 60 km) with 20 events and medium (depth between 60 km to 300 km) with 7 events.
"Of the 27 earthquakes that occurred in the past week in North Sumatra and Aceh, no significant earthquake was felt by the community," he said.
