Play At Home, Mainz Beat Leverkusen 3-2
JAKARTA - Bayer Leverkusen's ambition to secure a Champions League ticket came under pressure when Mainz scored two late goals to win 3-2 in the German League (Bundesliga), Friday 18 February. Leverkusen remain entrenched in third place in the standings with 41 points, 11 points adrift behind leaders Bayern Munich and seven points above Leipzig who currently occupy the final qualifying spot for next season's Champions League, but still have a game in hand. Leverkusen opened the scoring in the 35th minute through Czech striker Patrik Schick who has now scored. 20 league goals for the season. However, Schick was then forced off with an injury early in the second half.
Aaron Martin equalized for Mainz just before the hour mark but Lucas Alario restored Leverkusen's lead in the 74th minute after meeting a beautiful cross from Moussa Diaby. Mainz refused to give up and equalized for the second time in the 84th minute through a player Holland's Jean-Paul Boetius and Denmark's Marcus Ingvartsen scored the winner with two minutes remaining.
