Bawaslu: 2024 Election Oversight Must Be Prepared From Now
JAKARTA - The chairman of the RI Bawaslu, Abhan, asked his staff to prepare early on the strategy and planning for monitoring activities for the 2024 General Election.
"The voting schedule for the 2024 General Election has been agreed on February 14, 2024, so it needs to be prepared early," Abhan said in his statement in Jakarta, Friday, February 18.
Abhan said the initial stages are expected to start in July 2022, so that by 2023 all the core stages will be implemented and will be a busy year. He requested that activities and budgeting be made comprehensively. Do not let him think that in 2023 there will be one division that has no budget and activities.
Therefore, he conveyed the need to plan Bawaslu's programs and activities in accordance with the principles of effective, efficient and targeted budgeting that results in quality performance.
In preparing the program of activities with budget adjustments, Abhan emphasized the importance of accountability and improving the quality of work for election supervisors.
"This can be measured which reflects 'real work' or concrete work, maintains the quality of work, and reduces the occurrence of overlapping programs and activities between divisions," he said.
He saw the need to create linkages and harmony between the vision and mission of Bawaslu with the duties and functions as election supervisors.
"There needs to be effective and optimal spending efficiency in supervising the election stages," he said. Meanwhile, Bawaslu Member Fritz Edward Siregar reminded that there has been a change in district/city level institutions from ad hoc (temporary) to permanent so there needs to be adjustments.
"Institutional changes have also been made in the hope of improving inter-divisional communication. With the alignment of work plans, the preparation of the Bawaslu institution towards better monitoring the 2024 General Election can be achieved," he said.
