Jakarta PSBB Again, DPRD: Tightening Don't Be Responsible, Imposing Curfew

JAKARTA - Jakarta will again impose strict large-scale social restrictions (PSBB) starting Monday, September 14 next week. PDIP DPRD DKI Faction member Gilbert Simanjuntak suggested that the DKI Provincial Government also impose a curfew.

"The tightening policy should not be half-hearted. A curfew needs to be enforced and RT and RW administrators are responsible for monitoring it," Gilbert told VOI on Friday, September 11.

According to him, the main factor that caused the transitional PSBB to fail to reduce the spread of COVID-19 was unclear monitoring of health protocols. As a result, many people underestimate the prevention of corona virus transmission.

"The main spread of transmission at this time is in certain locations, where people do not comply with protocols. For example, gathering in narrow streets or alleys, traditional markets, and private public transport," he explained.

Gilbert hopes that the PSBB which will return to effect will not become a cover for the transitional PSBB with a new name. According to him, the community sacrifices too much, especially those who comply with prevention protocols.

"If indecisiveness is the cause of the failure of the Transitional PSBB, then it should not be repeated in the strict PSBB. Currently, people are prohibited from gathering. Public transportation and markets must be seriously monitored during operations, limited market operating hours, and involve the TNI and Polri," said Gilbert.

Previously, the Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan had 3 reasons that made him decide to restore the PSBB status. These three reasons are numerical parameters that currently indicate that the current condition of the COVID-19 outbreak in DKI is becoming alarming.

First, the trend of death cases due to COVID-19 has increased since the transitional PSBB period. Then, the number of active cases has also increased.

The increase in active cases has resulted in the use of isolation care beds and the ICU especially for COVID-19 patients will soon be full. If the PSBB is not carried out, the hospital will no longer be able to accommodate new COVID-19 patients in the future.

"From the three data, namely the death rate, the use of isolation beds, the use of the special ICU for COVID-19, it shows that the outbreak situation in Jakarta is in an emergency condition," said Anies.
