Head Of Intel Police Jayawijaya Police Beaten, 3 People Arrested

JAKARTA - The police succeeded in securing three people suspected of being the perpetrators of the attack on the Jayawijaya Police Headquarters, AKP Victorianus Renyaan. Three people are currently being detained at the Jayawijaya Police Headquarters.

Head of Public Relations of the Papua Police, Kombes Ahmad Kamal, confirmed the arrest of three residents of Meagama village, Hubikosi district.

The three people arrested were Samuel Miaga (26), Yoko Hilapok (20), and Iver Walilo (21).

The arrests were made after earlier Wednesday, September 9 at 13.30 WIT, around the T-junction of the Trans Kimbim-Muai road, the people of Meagama village ganged up on the Head of Intelligence and Security of the Jayawijaya Police, AKP Victorianus Renyaan, causing injuries to his face.

From the report that at that time the victim was about to go to Meagama village, but when he was at the T-junction of the trans Kimbim-Muai road, he met a group of Meagama people who were about to attack the residents of Wuka Hilapok Village.

Initially the victim tried to communicate, but was attacked and accused of being a spy and siding with Wuka Hilapok village. The perpetrators, apart from ganging up on the victim, also took noken (a typical Papuan knitted bag) containing a cellphone.

When asked what was the motivation for the attack carried out by Meagama residents to Wuka Hilapok, the Head of Public Relations admitted that from the reports received, the attack was triggered by an honai fire in Meagama.

"It is not yet certain the cause of the burning of the honai in Meagama," said Kombes Kamal as quoted by Antara, Friday, September 11.
