Anticipating A New Low Carbon Era, PLN Prepares Special Operations For The Java-Bali Power Generation System
JAKARTA - The demands of a new low-carbon era make PT PLN (Persero) continue to improve. One of them is by adapting improvements in various aspects of the Java-Bali power plant system operation.
Regional Business Director for Java, Madura and Bali, PLN, Haryanto, said that his party will use the economical, reliable and low emission concept (Trilema Energi) so that power plants can adapt by making improvements in various aspects of system operation, both planning and controlling operations.
"In supporting trial activities and ensuring the system continues to operate reliably and with quality, we have prepared a standard operating procedure (SOP) for testing," said Haryanto in a statement quoted by Antara, Wednesday, February 16.
PLN prepares special personnel consisting of dispatcher teams to related management to control the system during the special operation mode.
The Jamali system as the largest electrical interconnection system in Indonesia contributes to 70 percent of energy production in Indonesia.
The highest peak load figure is 28,094 megawatts and the production energy of generation is 197 terawatt hours in a year period, so that the pattern of generating operations in the Jamali system will greatly determine the production of carbon dioxide emissions produced by PLN.
With the support of complete data from the generation unit and related divisions, UIP2B Jamali has succeeded in simulating the system's operating pattern with the target of reducing carbon emissions against business as usual conditions.
Not only in the form of simulations, PLN has also adopted this new system operating pattern in the form of trials on the Jamali system on Saturday–Sunday, 12 and 13 February 2022.
In this trial, the Java, Madura Bali interconnection system will be operated specifically with the aim of reducing carbon emissions by 2.5 percent from the normal pattern.
"The trial runs smoothly according to the scenario created. Of course we fully support efforts to realize the energy transition and the target of net zero emission in 2060, which is also a central issue at the upcoming G20 meeting," said Haryanto.
He said that the Trilema Energi concept departed from the preparation of the system in welcoming the implementation of the carbon tax at coal-fired power plants as of April 2022. Through modeling carbon emission factors in the energy production simulation application, UIP2B conducts energy production simulations for routine activities in annual, monthly, weekly periods. , daily, and intraday.
"The results of the production simulation show that efforts to reduce emissions from setting the generating operating pattern will have an impact on increasing fuel costs because there is a change in the composition of the generation where the main concern, apart from reliability and lowest operating costs, also takes into account the amount of emissions," said Haryanto.
