Toyota Indonesia Wants To Export 600 Fortuner To Australia
JAKARTA - PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) plans to export 600 Toyota Fortuner sport utility vehicle (SUV) vehicles to Australia for the inaugural year in 2022.
"We hope that it will increase in the following years. We build trust first. This is the first year (exports to Australia), we have to slow down," said Director of Administration, Corporate & External Affairs, Technical Government Affairs TMMIN Bob Azam quoted from Antara, Wednesday 16 February.
Bob expects exports to Australia to be similar to Toyota Indonesia's export performance to the Middle East, which has now reached tens of thousands of vehicles.
For the Australian market, said Bob, the exported Fortuner has met the exhaust emission standard of Euro 5.
Toyota's inaugural export to Australia on Tuesday also opened a new continent of export destinations, after previously America, Africa and Asia.
Export shipments on Tuesday also confirmed Toyota Indonesia's total exports which had reached two million units.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang explained that to penetrate the Australian market, it is not an easy matter. The regulation of the automotive industry in Australia is quite strict, especially regarding fuel specifications, emissions to safety.
Agus also added that with the entry of exports to Australia, Indonesia will become an export hub for Toyota products.
"In particular, Toyota's exports in 2021 will be 119 thousand vehicles. This is 40 percent of Indonesia's total automotive exports," said Agus.
The release of the first car exports from Indonesia to Australia on Tuesday was officially inaugurated by President Jokowi.
"I really appreciate, really appreciate it, because whatever we saw earlier, the Fortuner product, in addition to other products, is produced by Indonesian human resources who have very good qualifications for export products," said President Jokowi in Karawang, West Java. .
