Poland Increases Cyber Alert After Ukraine Ministry Of Defense Hacked

JAKARTA – The Polish government has warned the security services and public administration against threats in cyberspace. The Polish Government Security Center on Tuesday, February 15, issued the warning just hours after Ukraine reported the Ministry of Defense and two of its banks had been hacked.

In a tweet late on Tuesday, the Polish Government Security Center said that the ALFA-CRP alert level, the lowest on a four-level scale, would be introduced across the country from 11:59 p.m. CET (1059 GMT) on 15 February to 11:59 p.m. CET on February 28.

"The ALFA-CRP alert is a signal to the security services and the entire public administration to be extremely vigilant," the Polish Government Security Center said in a tweet.

"This means that the government is obliged to carry out increased monitoring of the state of ICT system security," he added, as quoted by Reuters.

Earlier on Tuesday, Ukraine said the Defense Ministry and two banks had been targeted by cyber attacks. They appear to be pointing the finger at the Russian side, as the West seeks evidence from Moscow of withdrawing some of their troops from the border.

This cyber attack or hacking has increased the tension in relations between the two countries. Although physical warfare may have been avoided, cyber warfare has already occurred.
