Social Minister Hopes BMKG Provide More Early Information Regarding Floods

JAKARTA - Minister of Social Affairs (Mensos) Juliari P Batubara hopes that the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) can provide earlier information to anticipate flood victims.

According to him, early prevention information issued by BMKG is very useful for the community, especially those in flood-prone areas.

"Of course we also expect from BMKG to provide more accurate, earlier and massive information. So that our brothers who need information in flood-prone areas can immediately evaluate themselves so that there are no casualties," said Social Minister Juliari P Batubara while visiting the evacuation sites for flood victims. at Bidara Cina, Jakarta, Thursday 2 January.

The Ministry of Social Affairs recorded that the number of victims who died as a result of flooding in the Jakarta, Banten and West Java areas was 19.

He added that his party would provide compensation to the families of flood victims who died in cash worth IDR 15 million.

"For the victims who died, we provide compensation to the heirs in the amount of Rp. 15 million per victim," he said.

The Minister of Social Affairs reviewed a number of refugee locations in three points of East Jakarta which were badly affected by flooding in Jakarta, such as Cipinang Melayu, Bidara Cina, and Cawang.

The Minister of Social Affairs saw that the assistance provided to flood victims in a number of refugee camps was adequate. He also did not forbid anyone who wanted to distribute aid to flood victims.

"So if there is an organization or individual who wants to help, please have a point," explained Julian P Batubara.
