Indonesia Beats Hong Kong 4-1 In 2022 Asian Team Badminton Championships

JAKARTA – The women's badminton team from Indonesia started their first step with sweetness in the 2022 Asian Team Badminton Championships. They won 4-1 over Hong Kong.

The Garuda squad played the first match of Group Z elimination against Hong Kong at the Setia City Convention Center, Selangor, Malaysia, Tuesday, February 15 morning.

Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, who played in the first match, managed to bring Indonesia 1-0 up. The country's best women's singles recorded a 21-16, 21-12 victory over Cheung Ying Mei.

"Thank God I was able to carry out my duties well, I was able to win the match in the opening match. Indeed, the conditions during training and the match were different. Need to adapt again. Earlier I also made several mistakes. the game," said Gregoria in an official statement.

Hong Kong managed to rise and equalize in the second game. Their women's doubles, Yeung Nga Ting/Yeung Pui Lam, won in three sets, 19-21, 21-19, 21-23 over Febriana Dwi Puji Kusuma/Amalia Cahaya Pratiwi.

However, the Red and White team again led 2-1 when Putri Kusuma Wardani went down in the third party. He played well to beat Yeung Sum Yee, 21-14, 21-5 in just 33 minutes.

"At first I was tense. However, after leading in the first interval, I was able to enjoy playing more. Especially in the second game, I was more comfortable playing and finally won easily," said Putri.

The women's doubles pair, Lanny Tria Mayasari/Jesita Putri Miantoro, who played in the third match, also managed to widen the points gap. Through a fierce battle lasting 48 minutes, Lanny/Jesita finally beat Fan Ka Yan/Yau Mau Ying with 12-21, 21-14, 21-19.

Indonesia's victory was even more perfect in the last match. Stephani Widjaja managed to add points for the team after overcoming the resistance from Saloni Samirbhal Mehta with a final score of 21-18, 21-13.

The women's team will then meet Kazakhstan on Wednesday, 16 tomorrow. Meanwhile, the men's team will play Hong Kong today at 15.00 WIB.
