Preparation For FIBA World Cup 2023 Qualification, Indonesian Basketball Team Practices 2 Times A Day

JAKARTA – The Indonesian men's national basketball team underwent training twice in one day. This is a step to get the best results in the second window of the 2023 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers.

Indonesia is scheduled to face Saudi Arabia on February 24, following the day later the team of Rajko Toroman will meet Jordan. The Red and White Squad is also expected to achieve the best results compared to the first window.

To be able to achieve this target, the Indonesian basketball team has also held a training camp since last Thursday, February 10.

"Twice a day for athletes who are negative because we use the bubble system here," explained the Assistant Coach of the Indonesian Basketball Team, Wahyu Widayat Jati in a statement received by VOI.

Until now, the training material that is carried out twice in one day is still limited to refreshing the playing system applied by coach Toroman. That's because there are some players who are not regular players in the national team such as Ali Bagir, Aldy Izzatur Rahman, Neo Pande, and Mohammad Arighi.

Wahyu said that apart from that, the coaching team had also received recordings of the matches between Saudi Arabia and Jordan in the previous match. This recording is important to dissect the opponent's strength. The hope is that the national team can anticipate the opponent's strategy on the field.

"We have seen the recording of their game. We hope that what was yesterday's homework against Lebanon we can find a solution. For example, our transition from offense to defense is a little late. Our rebound is also execution on the offense," he said.

Currently, Lester Prosper, Agassi Goentara, and Brandon Jawato have joined the Indonesian basketball team. This can be good capital for the Garuda squad after in the first window against Lebanon only Juwato can be relied on.

At that time, Indonesia had to accept two crushing defeats from Lebanon. The two matches which took place at the Nouhad Nawfal Sports Center, Zouk Mikael, ended 38-96 and 64-110.

"With the presence of Prosper and Agassi, we can increase our strength. Although it is very likely that some of the players we are waiting for have negative PCR results. So hopefully everything will go well," said Wahyu.

PP Perbasi summoned 22 players to attend the training camp which took place in Jakarta. However, only 12 players will be dispatched to face Saudi Arabia and Jordan.
