Supporting Telkom To Become The Largest Digital Telecommunication Company In ASEAN, Erick Thohir Asks For Accelerated Transformation Through Mitratel
JAKARTA - The Ministry of SOEs encourages PT Telkom Indonesia to transform with a focus on digital business. This is in line with the mission expressed by the Minister of SOEs, Erick Thohir, who targets Telkom to become the largest digital telecommunications company in Southeast Asia.
This mission was implemented by PT Telkom Indonesia by changing its business model which now focuses on working on the digital world. One form of implementation is Telkom's subsidiary, namely PT Dayamitra Telekomunikasi Tbk (MTEL) or Mitratel, which continues to build operator towers to support 5G networks throughout Indonesia.
Erick said that Telkom's strategic move through Mitratel which targets the construction of 6,000 communication network operator towers in the next three years is very crucial. Because this is in line with the government's big mission to equalize digital access throughout the archipelago.
"The steps taken by PT Telkom through Mitratel is a big task because it will grow communication access for people throughout the region to be able to access digital networks and realize Digital Indonesia. This will produce a very large effect for economic growth, public services and bring a multiplier effect on MSMEs and as well as human resource development", Erick said in a written statement quoted by Antara on Friday, February 11.
Erick also appreciated Telkom's quick steps in responding to the challenges that were presented when he was initially a minister. Now, the change in Telkom's business model towards digital has seen a significant development.
"The change in Telkom's business model to a digital platform has been very visible in the last three years. I am optimistic, with the planning and implementation of this communication tower infrastructure development, in the three largest years Telkom can become the largest digital telco company in Southeast Asia", said Erick.
Meanwhile, Telkom President Director, Ririek Adriansyah, said Telkom is currently continuing to accelerate the transformation and structuring of its portfolio for optimal value creation for the TelkomGroup, stakeholders and the nation and state.
"Focusing on increasing business towers, data centers, infrastructure managed services, cloud computing (cloud), big data, and retail services will strengthen Telkom's position as a business partner providing digital connectivity, digital platforms and digital services for domestic and regional", Ririek said.

However, the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises underlined that the change in Telkom's business model towards digital must continue to be improved at the implementation level. Because changing a good business model is not just about creating a new value.
"But Telkom's task now is how new values through Mitratel's digital telecommunication tower business can capture new values that support the company's income (new value capture). And how can this digital infrastructure produce a new value proposition for the company. That's how the company's effective business model changes", said Erick.
The development of Mitratel is certainly in line with the agenda of the Ministry of SOEs in building a 5G ecosystem, which has been started in the 5G Mining Project with the collaboration between Freeport and Telkom.
In addition, the Ministry of SOEs has also carried out other initiative programs to support digitalization, including in the financial sector (using artificial intelligence), health (via telemedicine), logistics (integrated logistics system), and transportation (ecosystems for autonomous vehicles).
