Trump Accuses Biden Of Chinese Backing As Evidence Of Russian Support For His Campaign Strengthens

JAKARTA - President of the United States (US) Donald Trump has said that China has interfered in the 2020 US Presidential Election. China has even been said to be trying to thwart Trump's bid to be re-elected by encouraging anti-racism protests. While stating this, Trump also uploaded an article written by a columnist. The article he said did not fit the US intelligence community's assessment of China's efforts so far.

These comments and claims were similar to those made by many of the people he appointed to CNN on Tuesday. Everything was set up to achieve the same goal: to toy with the theory that China was intervening to get Biden elected.

On the other hand, Trump did not respond to reports that Russia was trying to help him get re-elected. Trump posted a Breitbart article on his Twitter, which quoted author and columnist Gordon Chang.

Chang said the Chinese Communist Party was "trying to make life very difficult" for Trump by "sparking" violent Black Lives Matter protests. "From the little evidence we have of Chinese activity, with its bots and whatnot, they seem to be supporting Vice President Biden, trying to make life very difficult for President Trump, and sparking protests, of course," Chang said. "I think China has decided to vote for the Democratic Party candidate."

It's unclear where Chang's information came from, but the US and Silicon Valley governments have not offered a public assessment of China's alleged covert activity similar to what he described. The only public comment from groups about meddling in the US Presidential Election has focused on pro-Trump activities linked to Russia.

Moreover, the article appears to contradict what US intelligence officials have said protecting the 2020 presidential election from foreign interference. Intelligence officials say they have found evidence that Russia is currently meddling in the US presidential election to harm Joe Biden's campaign.

Separately, some evidence of Russia's efforts has emerged, including Facebook's announcement last week that a group that was part of Russia's attempt to interfere in the 2016 US presidential election is again trying to target Americans. The intelligence community argued that China and Iran would prefer Trump to lose in November, but intelligence officials have also given no indication that the two countries will act like Russia.

"We judge that China prefers President Trump not to win back. China has expanded its influence efforts ahead of November 2020 to shape a policy environment in the US to suppress political figures it sees as opposing Chinese interests, fending off and countering criticism of China," the top US intelligence official said on Monday. the field of electoral security, Bill Evanina, in a public statement released last month.

Russia, on the other hand, has used various measures, notably bringing down former Vice President Biden. They view Biden as anti-Russian, Evanina wrote in the same statement. "This is consistent with the Russian public's criticism of him (Biden) when he was Vice President and was instrumental in the Obama Administration's policies in Ukraine and its support for anti-Putin in Russia," said Evanina.

While former CIA operative John Sipher said there were clear differences in the way Evanina characterized the threat posed by China and Russia. "Several Russian-linked actors are also trying to step up President Trump's candidacy on Russian social media and television," said John Sipher.

"The simple difference is between covert interference on the one hand and public preference. China uses influence, diplomacy and commentary in the press and propaganda organs. Russia uses disinformation, fake accounts, bots and secret funding as part of its covert campaign," concluded Sipher. .
