Courier Of 143 Kg Cannabis In Bengkulu Sued 15 Years In Prison
BENGKULU - The Bengkulu Public Prosecutor for the Crime (Kejati) charged the defendant RY, a narcotics courier of 143 kilograms, with a criminal sentence of 15 years in prison.
Head of the Penkum Kejati Bengkulu, Ristianti Andriani, said that the defendant RY was also required to pay a fine of Rp. 4 billion, subsidiary to 6 months in prison.
"Because the defendant RY, according to the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Bengkulu Prosecutor's Office, was declared valid and proven to have violated Article 115 paragraph 2," said Ristianti, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, February 9.
The defendant, called the prosecutor, was proven to have violated Law No. 35 of 2009 on Narcotics and demanded 15 years in prison. The defendant also did not support the government's program in eradicating narcotics and illegal drugs.
Defendant Ry was arrested by the Bengkulu Province National Narcotics Agency (BNN) team on Friday, October 15, 2021.
The defendant was arrested when crossing Jalan Raya Curup - Lubuk Linggau, precisely in Pasar Ulak Tanding Village, Padang Ulak Tanding District, Rejang Lebong Regency.
After a search of the truck driven by the defendant, Bengkulu Province BNN officers found six large sacks containing 143 kg of marijuana. The details are five sacks containing 25 large-sized marijuana packages and one bag containing 18 marijuana packages, and is estimated at Rp700 million.
In order to deceive the officer's examination, the defendant placed the pile of 143 kilograms of marijuana under a pile of sacks filled with manure.
