National Press Day, Jokowi Asks For The Media Industry Ecosystem To Be Organized
JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo highlighted the pressure experienced by the press industry in the last two years. Among them are pandemic pressures, digital disruption, and various giant foreign platforms that erode the economic potential and influence of mainstream media.
Jokowi views that the drastic change in the landscape of media competition and the pressures experienced have given rise to various complicated issues. He said this while attending the virtual peak of the National Press Day commemoration.
"The emergence of alternative sources of information, the proliferation of information trends that solely pursue the number of clicks or views, the flood of content that only pursues virality, the massive amount of misleading information, pitting against each other, causing confusion and even division," Jokowi said. in the Presidential Secretariat's Youtube broadcast, Wednesday, February 9.
Therefore, Jokowi asked for the creation of a balanced press industry ecosystem. "The press industry ecosystem must be regulated, a more balanced competitive climate must continue to be created," he said.
Jokowi also asked the media industry, especially mainstream media, to quickly transform, be innovative in increasing the use of technology to accelerate healthy growth, and flood platform channels with good and quality news.
"We must not only be a global technology product market and we must immediately build an innovative technology platform that helps the public to get quality, accurate, and accountable information," said Jokowi. . General Chairperson of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) Pusat Atal S. Depari in his remarks said that HPN 2022 is an event for friendship and unification of the spirit so that the press stays alive for the nation, society and state.
