The Voice Of The Thundering Mystery In Garut Is Finally Answered, Not From Mount Guntur

JAKARTA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Garut Regency, West Java conveyed the rumbling sound that had shocked residents not due to the activity of the active volcano Guntur. What exists is due to geothermal steam activity in Kamojang.

"Yes, it is true that there is sound, but it is not from the activity of Mount Guntur," said Head of the Garut Regency BPBD Satria Budi when contacted by cell phone in Garut, Tuesday, February 8.

He said the rumbling sound that had been heard by a number of residents at the foot of Mount Guntur occurred on Monday (7/2) until close to midnight.

BPBD Garut, he said, followed up on the incident to the Mount Guntur monitoring party, which resulted in no prominent events or earthquakes in the active volcano area.

"Yes, the report says there is no earthquake on the mountain, the seismogram is flat, meaning there is no signal of activity on Mount Guntur," he said as quoted by Antara.

He submitted a report in the field that the rumbling sound that was heard at night was due to the activity of steam or geothermal energy in the Kamojang area, which was still a forest area of Mount Guntur.

The rumbling sound that was heard by residents around the foot of the mountain, he said, was due to strong winds that led to residents' settlements so that their voices sounded rumbling.

"So because that night there was a strong wind from there (geothermal area)," said Satria.

He appealed to the public to remain calm because last night's incident was not an active volcano activity that the Garut people had been worried about.

"Keep calm, because it's not from the mountains," he said.

Previously, a number of residents at the foot of Mount Guntur heard a loud rumbling sound at night.

A resident of Cipanas, Tarogong Kaler sub-district, Indra (22) made the roar that began to be heard around 22.00 WIB from the direction of Mount Guntur.

A number of residents, he said, had panicked so they chose to gather outside their homes, and some residents checked the condition of the mountain to ascertain the source of the sound.

"I went up to the foot of the mountain to confirm the origin of the sound, it turned out that after investigation, the sound came from the west or the direction of Samarang," he said.

As long as the rumbling sound was heard, residents remained alert, and continued to seek information regarding the incident.
