Gus Miftah Comments On Oki Setiana Dewi's Viral Lecture: I'm Sure He Disapproves Of Domestic Violence Only The Sentences Are Not Right

JAKARTA - The well-known Nahdlatul Ulama figure, Miftah Maulana Habiburrahman or popularly known as Gus Miftah, responded to a lecture by Oki Setiana Dewi about a husband who beats his wife.

Quoting a Hadith narrated by Muslim, Gus Miftah said Rasulullah SAW never hit anything with his hands, including women.

"Aisyah's hadith earlier, in the Majmu book, it says this hadith is the argument that it is more important not to hit the wife," said Gus Miftah through his Instagram upload, Friday, February 4, as quoted by Antara.

Gus Miftah then said that he agreed with the Law on the Elimination of Domestic Violence (UU KDRT) so that wives who experienced violence could be accompanied by Komnas Perempuan and get their rights.

According to Gus Miftah, a husband is sometimes excessive in legitimizing himself as the head of the household.

"Sometimes, husbands go too far and go too far to legitimize themselves as priests. In fact, sometimes they can't be a good priest, they can't be a responsible household leader," said Gus Miftah.

"A good wife is a wife who is ready to be invited to suffer by her husband. And a good husband will never invite his wife to suffer," he wrote.

Regarding Oki Setiana Dewi's lecture that went viral, Gus Miftah was sure that the preacher did not intend to normalize domestic violence either.

"Ustadzah Oki is also a wife, really. I'm sure he doesn't agree with domestic violence. Maybe, my guess is, the selection of examples and the selection of diction for sentences that don't fit," said Gus Miftah.

Oki Setiana Dewi was attacked by netizens because a post containing some of her lectures on Tiktok was deemed to support domestic violence (KDRT) by citizens. By wearing a red hijab and brown shirt, Oki tells a true story of a married couple in Jeddah.

"Husband and wife are fighting. Her husband is very angry with his wife and his wife is hit in the face. His wife is crying, suddenly the doorbell rings. In a puffy state, the wife opens the door, it turns out to be his wife's mother. Her husband is excited from a distance," said Oki. Oki continued his lecture that the incident could have cornered the husband because his father-in-law suddenly came and found that his son was crying. However, the story turned out not to be the case because the wife covered it up because she missed her parents so much that she shed tears. "Her husband is from a distance, oh God, she's a wife. Even though she can complain to her parents. I was just beaten, there was domestic violence. My husband, right if it's a woman, she likes to talk too much. People when they are angry, they like to exaggerate. Her husband will melt. Oh God, my wife keeps my disgrace, so I love my husband more and more, so there is no need for stories that vilify our partner, " he added.

Realizing that his lecture was creating controversy, Oki immediately clarified. The lecture took place about 2 years ago at the Al-Muhajirin Mosque, Magelang, Central Java. Not to forget, Oki also emphasized that he also rejects domestic violence.

"Thank you for your attention and affection. Of course I strongly reject domestic violence. I apologize and apologize for the mistakes in conveying and may Allah forgive me for all my mistakes," he added.
