Mbak Oki, Komnas Perempuan Says Any Violence Is Not Justified By Religion, Including Husbands Slapping Wife
JAKARTA - The National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) regrets the content of Oki Setiana Dewi's lecture which contains a recommendation not to tell about domestic violence (KDRT) experienced by a wife.
From his lecture, Oki said that his wife should not tell about the violence she experienced because it was a domestic disgrace.
This statement was denied by Komnas Perempuan Commissioner Siti Aminah Tardi. To Oki, Siti emphasized that religion does not condone violence in any form.
"Violence in any form is not justified in Islam, including husband slapping his wife. Given his role as a preacher, there is an obligation to encourage congregations to obey the rule of law as well as convey religious interpretations that favor women," Siti told VOI, Friday, February 4.
Apart from the religious side, the content of Siti's lectures is also against the law. Siti emphasized that husband slapping his wife is a form of physical violence that violates Law Number 23 of 2004 concerning the Elimination of Domestic Violence (UU PKDRT).
"The PKDRT Law is a form of state obligation, including protecting victims of domestic violence and taking action against perpetrators of domestic violence.
By making it a prohibited act, apart from not committing domestic violence, it also does not condone or promote violence against wives," he explained.
In this regard, Siti said that one of the problems in the domestic violence case is indeed the case in the content of Oki's lecture, namely the victim's reluctance to report acts of violence committed by her partner.
Based on Komnas Perempuan data, in the period 2016 to 2020, there were 25,841 cases of violence against wives, both in the form of physical, psychological, sexual and economic violence.
"The data is of course only the tip of the iceberg. More victims do not report or tell stories," said Siti.
In fact, according to him, victims, whether reporting or not, are not exaggerating what they have experienced, but trying to get justice and recovery, including seeking help to get help and support. "Thus telling of domestic violence, especially to parents, is not a disgrace," he continued.
Oki Setiana Dewi was attacked by netizens because a post containing some of her lectures on Tiktok was deemed to support domestic violence (domestic violence) by citizens. By wearing a red hijab and brown clothes, Oki tells a true story of a married couple in Jeddah.
"Husband and wife are fighting. Her husband is very angry with his wife and his wife is hit in the face. His wife is crying, suddenly the doorbell rings. In a puffy state, the wife opens the door, it turns out to be his wife's mother. Her husband is excited from a distance," said Oki. .
Oki continued his lecture that the incident could have cornered the husband because his father-in-law suddenly came and found that his son was crying. However, the story turned out not to be the case because the wife covered it by reasoning that she missed her parents so much that she shed tears.
"Her husband is from a distance, oh God, she's a wife. Even though the wife can complain to her parents. I just got hit, there was domestic violence, my husband, right if the woman talks about it, people like to exaggerate when they are angry. it melts. Oh God, my wife saves my disgrace, so the more love for the husband to the wife, so there is no need for stories that vilify our partner," he added.
