Street Vendors At Malioboro 1 Terrace Admit To Experiencing An Increase In Turnover

YOGYAKARTA - Malioboro street vendors who have occupied the relocation location on Teras Malioboro 1 claimed to be able to get a higher turnover when compared to selling in the pedestrian area.

"Thank God. There are a lot of visitors. Yesterday I opened it for the first time and was able to get around Rp. 400,000," said Murtilah, one of the traders at Teras Malioboro 1 Yogyakarta, quoted by Antara, Thursday, February 3.

When selling on the Malioboro pedestrian street, Murtilah said that his income from selling was around Rp. 300,000 when Malioboro was crowded with tourists, but he could also not get income if Malioboro was empty of visitors.

According to him, the new placement location in the former Indra Cinema building is quite comfortable to live in and traders are no longer bothered to cover their merchandise with plastic when it rains.

"It's no longer raining here and you have to bother installing plastic. It's also not too hot here. I feel comfortable. In other words, traders just go in because all the facilities have been prepared," he said.

In addition, he said, his legality as a street vendor has been recognized and he hopes that the local government will continue to strive so that the relocation location is always crowded with tourists.

"Hopefully, the income at this new selling point will get better," he said.

Meanwhile, a clothing and souvenir trader at Teras Malioboro 1, Amin said that he had started moving his merchandise and arranging it in the new stall he was occupying.

"It's a bit of a hassle because the stall is small, but the location for selling is convenient and our legality is recognized," he said, who has been selling in Malioboro since 1986.

He hopes that at the placement location, his merchandise will continue to sell well and he will no longer be asked to relocate.

Meanwhile, a tourist from Surabaya, Hendri, said that the location of selling in a new place is quite convenient for tourists.

"We also have no problem if we have to walk here to stop by and shop," he said.

The same thing was conveyed by a tourist from Semarang Yoga who said that the location of Teras Malioboro 1 was very interesting to visit because the location was suitable as a photo spot.

"There are several corners that are Instagramable. Indeed, not all traders are open, so it doesn't look crowded yet, but the location is very attractive for taking pictures and convenient for shopping," he said.
