JAKARTA – The number of players for the Pelita Jaya basketball team who have contracted COVID-19 has now increased. There are now a total of six players who have tested positive in the team.
Previously, Pelita Jaya announced the cases of two players infected with the virus on Sunday, January 30. The two players are Fernando Fransco Manansang and Govinda Julian Saputra who carried out a PCR test on January 28 last.
Meanwhile, four other players who have just tested positive are M. Arighi, Hendrick Xavi Yonga, Vincent Rivaldi Kosasih, and Abiyyu Ramadhan. The addition of cases made Pelita Jaya's match against the Indonesia Patriot on Tuesday, February 1 night have to be postponed.
According to Pelita Jaya's official Instagram page, M. Arighi and Hendrick Xavi Yonga underwent the test on the morning of January 30. They later tested positive after the test results came out that evening.
Then Vincent Rivaldi Kosasih and Abiyyu Ramadhan took the test on January 31, 2022 in the morning. They were found to be infected with COVID-19 after the test results came out on February 1, 2022 in the morning.
The second series of IBL 2022 has been plagued by COVID-19 since the first day of the match. The positive player case forced the organizers to postpone the Pelita Jaya versus Satya Wacana Salatiga match.
So far, the IBL has postponed four matches due to the skyrocketing number of infected cases. However, there are no plans from the organizers to stop the competition as happened in the 2020 season.
A few days ago, IBL President Director Junas Miradiarsyah said that the second series would continue as planned. If the spike in cases persists they will likely run a back-up plan without spectators or move the host city.
However, the IBL also did not rule out stopping the competition. That could happen if the government gave an emergency alarm regarding the current situation.
