Strong Proposal From UIN Jakarta Professor: Corruptors Need To Be Punished For Life And Impoverished So That There Is A Deterrent Effect
JAKARTA - Professor of the State Islamic University (UIN) Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta Azyumardi Azra views that punishment for corruptors needs to be increased by life imprisonment and impoverishment, in order to be able to provide a deterrent effect and optimize the eradication of corruption in Indonesia.
"The sentence must be increased, which can be sentenced to two or three times for life. It can also be impoverished so that it really gives up," said Azyumardi Azra, quoted from Antara, Saturday, February 1. Furthermore, Azyumardi Azra also conveyed several efforts that the government and law enforcement officers could take in optimizing the eradication of corruption in the country. Furthermore, he views that regulations related to the handling of criminal acts of corruption must be sharpened and toughened, so as to be able to make people avoid these actions, and even provide a deterrent effect to the perpetrators.
If the government and law enforcement officers are able to carry out these efforts, Azyumardi Azra believes that the eradication of corruption in Indonesia will be more optimal.
On the other hand, he said, if these efforts are not carried out, there will not be many changes for the better in terms of eradicating corruption.
