Former Menpora Abdul Gofur Died At The Army Hospital
JAKARTA - Former Youth and Sports Minister (Menpora) Abdul Gafur passed away at the Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital, Friday, September 4. Abdul Gofar died at the age of 81.
"Yes (died). I don't know what kind of illness he is, ”said Sesmenpora Gatot S Dewa Broto when contacted by Antara.
Gatot said the Kemenpora extended family was sorry for the death of Abdul Gofur. "We certainly miss a lot because he is a former Menpora," he said.
The man whose full name is Abdul Gafur Tengku Idris was born in Maluku, North Maluku on June 20, 1939. He was a former Menpora for the 1978-1988 period under the leadership of President Soeharto.
Before being appointed as Menpora, he served as the Junior Minister for Youth Affairs in 1978–1983.
He also served as Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) for the period 1997-1999 and Chairman of the Supreme Advisory Council (DPA) in 1988-1997.
