In Six Hours Can Get Rp1.7 Billion, These Two Girls Only Thanks To The Sales Of NFT Cartoon Duck
JAKARTA – Just like Ghozali Everyday, two girls named Thorne Melcher and Mandy Musselwhite managed to make big profits and finally saved their assets thanks to the sale of non-fungible tokens (NFT) in the form of cartoon ducks. The cartoon was named Dastardly Ducks and was sold for $120,000.
This story begins when Thorne Melcher lost his job as a software engineer, in February last year. The bills were piling up even more at that time. His partner, Mandy Musselwhite, also tried to sell his art. However, it didn't help much, in fact they almost lost all their assets.
Melcher and Musselwhite themselves have a guest house outside Atalanta, United States (US). The assets are worth about 300 thousand US dollars or Rp. 4.3 billion which was bought with their savings in 2019. The assets also include a farm, where they raise six ducks, two geese and other animals.
Create NFT For Fear of Having Assets Confiscated
The pair then created Dastardly Ducks, a 10 thousand collection of NFT-shaped cartoon ducks that have unique combination codes and have 100 different traits. Reporting from CNBC International, the digital work was sold out in just six hours and earned a profit of IDR 1.7 billion. Melcher himself admitted that this was like a dream. He also admitted that he could not sleep before his work was sold out.
"We saved our farm by selling duck cards. It was like a dream. They immediately started going really fast. I couldn't sleep until they were gone," said Melcher.
"Our lives changed overnight," he said.
Made in Less Than Two Weeks
Melcher and Musselwhite admitted to working on the Dastardly Ducks in early January. Melcher explains that the manufacturing process is like starting a start-up and launching the first product. He also admitted that the manufacturing and selling process took less than two weeks.
As a coder, Melcher can easily learn Solidity. It is a programming language for developing smart contracts that run on the Ethereum blockchain. Musselwhite, who is a graphic artist, is in charge of designing the ducks. Not only are their NFTs sold out, job offers are piling up. Not long after Dastardly Ducks was launched, the two admitted that many people wanted to work with them.
"So many people suddenly wanted to work with me as a Solidity coder. There were people who were interested in working with Mandy as an artist," said Melcher.
