Not Reaching Target, Government Speeds Up Vaccination For The Elderly

JAKARTA - The Minister of Communication and Information, Jhonny G. Plate, reminded the public to help the elderly group to take vaccinations for those who have not received the injection.

Because, he continued, based on data as of February 27, the vaccination coverage for the elderly was only around 15.5 million people at the first dose and 10 million people at the second dose. Meanwhile, the target of achieving vaccination for the elderly in Indonesia is 21.5 million people.

"So it's still less than 75 percent who have been vaccinated with the first dose. We must continue to boost vaccination for the elderly," said Jhonny in a written statement, Friday, January 28.

Jhonny explained that the elderly group had a higher risk of severity and mortality when contracting COVID-19. As many as 46.8 percent of COVID-19 death cases are the elderly group.

"Let's help elderly relatives or relatives to immediately get health protection, especially when cases are rising," he said.

Furthermore, regarding vaccination coverage in general, Johnny said that more than 180 million Indonesians had received the first dose of vaccine and more than 120 million of them had received the second dose.

"So, for those who have not been vaccinated or have not completed their primary vaccination, what are you waiting for, get vaccinated immediately," said Jhonny.

More specifically, there are currently 183,677,032 people who have received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccination and 127,164,526 of the second dose of vaccination. Then, the third dose of vaccination was 1,382,282. Meanwhile, the target for vaccination in Indonesia is 208,265,720 people.
