Bad Chances Of COVID Soaring, RSUD Dr. Slamet Garut Prepares 60 Beds

GARUT - The Regional General Hospital (RSUD) Dr Slamet Garut has prepared 60 beds in a special room equipped with medical equipment to deal with a possible spike in COVID-19 cases, including the new variant of Omicron.

"Although there has not been a significant spike in cases at this time, we still have 60 beds ready for handling COVID-19 patients," said Head of Medical Services at RSUD Dr. Slamet Garut, Zaini Abdillah when contacted by reporters in Garut, Antara, Thursday, January 27.

He said the 60-bed isolation room had been filled with five patients, consisting of three positive patients and two suspected of being exposed to COVID-19.

The bed prepared by the Garut Hospital, he said, was an anticipatory step in the event of a spike in cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 in Garut Regency.

"We have prepared health resources as a measure to anticipate the surge in Omicron cases in the next few months," he said.

He conveyed that the availability of beds in the isolation room was the first step, if the spike in cases exceeded the room capacity, the Garut Hospital would add them as needed.

If necessary, he said, such as steps that have been taken in mid-2021 or when there was a spike in COVID-19 cases which decided that all service rooms at the Garut Hospital were devoted to COVID-19 patients.

"We are ready to use the entire room for handling COVID-19, as was done during the delta variant, we pray that hopefully it doesn't get to that stage," he said.

He added that Garut Hospital had also prepared adequate medical equipment for handling COVID-19 patients, including personal protective equipment for health workers.

In addition, he continued, Garut Hospital has also prepared oxygen for the needs of COVID-19 patients, and it is hoped that there will be no more shortages like the previous incident.

"To prevent that (scarcity), we will provide a spare tube, the tube will be used if the reserves in the tank are running low," he said.
